Spain — wine

Priorat DOQ

Spain's most prestigious red wine appellation, in the Tarragona mountains of Catalonia. Llicorella soils — black and red slate with mica chips — impart extraordinary mineral concentration to Garnacha and Cariñena blends. The steep terraced vineyards, sometimes at gradients exceeding 60°, are entirely hand-tended. Priorat was awarded DOQ (the highest Spanish designation, shared only with Rioja) in 2001. Wines of extraordinary density, mineral depth and longevity.
