Montsant DO

A horseshoe-shaped appellation surrounding Priorat in the Tarragona mountains, sharing similar Garnacha and Cariñena varieties on limestone, clay and granite soils (without llicorella slate). More accessible in price than Priorat but sharing the same old-vine Garnacha intensity and Mediterranean warmth. Montsant has emerged as an important appellation in its own right, with several producers achieving Priorat-level quality.
