Central Taiwan Highlands

Taiwan's Central Mountain Range produces the world's finest high-mountain (gaoshan) oolong tea — a category unique to Taiwan's geography, culture, and competitive auction system. The altitude effect is not merely symbolic: each 100m of elevation adds approximately one week to bud development, concentrating amino acids, polyphenols, and aromatic compounds. Alishan, Lishan, Dayuling, and Shanlinxi represent progressively higher and more prestigious elevations. Taiwan's biannual government-sanctioned tea competitions (run by the Lugu Farmers' Association for Dong Ding and by regional bodies for high mountain) create a graded quality hierarchy with transparent pricing.
