Catalan appellation south-west of Barcelona, historically the most innovative region in Spain. The heartland of Cava production (Xarel·lo, Macabeo, Parellada) but also producing still wines of increasing ambition. Altitude zones from coastal (near sea level) to high Penedès (900m), allowing diverse varieties from international classics to Catalan indigenes. Torres family is the defining influence, with global varieties planted alongside Garnacha Blanca and other local grapes.
