Dong Ding Mountain gave its name to Taiwan's most historically significant oolong style. The traditional Dong Ding oolong — medium-to-dark oxidation, charcoal-roasted, balled and rolled — is the foundation from which Taiwan's tea culture grew. While high-mountain oolongs have surpassed it in prestige and price, Dong Ding remains the classic reference: deeply satisfying, roasted, with stone fruit and caramel notes that develop further with re-roasting. The Lugu Farmers Association competition is one of Taiwan's most prestigious and longest-running agricultural competitions.
