Vanuatu — Kava

Vanuatu is the birthplace and spiritual home of kava culture — the archipelago with the greatest cultivar diversity on Earth, where kava is both daily social lubricant and sacred ceremonial substance. The nakamal (kava bar) is the institution of Melanesian civil society. Vanuatu's Noble varieties — Borogu, Melomelo, Kelai — are the benchmark for quality; Tudei (two-day) varieties, which produce hangover-like effects, are banned from export under the 2002 Kava Act.
