Pomerol is the smallest of Bordeaux's great appellations, covering just 800 hectares on the Right Bank plateau near Libourne. Merlot dominates on the distinctive clay-gravel soils, producing wines of velvet texture, extraordinary concentration, and haunting floral complexity. Pomerol has no official classification but Pétrus, Lafleur, and Le Pin are considered among the world's greatest wines.
