Bourgueil and its satellite Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil produce Cabernet Franc on the north bank of the Loire, opposite Chinon. The distinctive tuffeau and gravel terroirs produce wines of red fruit freshness and herbal character — lighter than Chinon but charming and food-friendly. The best old-vine tuffeau Bourgueil can rival Chinon in depth and longevity.
