Slovenia — wine
Goriška Brda
Goriška Brda ('Collio' in Italian, shared with Friuli-Venezia Giulia across the border) is Slovenia's most prestigious wine region, producing white wines of extraordinary complexity from a unique combination of marine Eocene flysch soils (Ponca), Mediterranean sunshine, and cooling Alpine winds. Rebula (Ribolla Gialla) is the star indigenous variety; Pinela, Zelen, and Klarnica are other unique local whites. The region has also pioneered the modern 'orange wine' movement through extended skin contact maceration. Movia and Radikon (Italian side) are reference producers.
