Azerbaijan — wine

Azerbaijan Wine Region

An ancient wine country that contemporary wine lovers have largely forgotten, Azerbaijan has been producing wine in the Caucasus mountains since at least 3,000 BC. The historic wine regions of Shamakhi and Ganja-Gazakh produce wines from indigenous grapes Madrasa, Bayanshirey, and Khindogni alongside international varieties, with some producers achieving European-quality standards. The country's Muslim majority has complicated wine culture, but significant Christian Armenian and Georgian communities maintained winemaking traditions through centuries.
