Spain — wine

Tacoronte-Acentejo DO

Tenerife's oldest and most prestigious wine DO, encompassing the northeastern volcanic slopes of the island from Tacoronte to Acentejo at 200–700 meters altitude. The indigenous Listán Negro grape — a variety found only in the Canary Islands, possibly pre-dating Spanish colonization — produces wines of remarkable depth and freshness on the black volcanic basalt soils. Tacoronte-Acentejo wines have a distinctive volcanic mineral character quite unlike any other European red, earning the DO a reputation among natural wine enthusiasts as one of the Atlantic world's most authentic wine expressions.
