Zitsa PDO

Greece's most overlooked mountain wine PDO, located in the Epirus region of northwestern Greece near Ioannina at 600–800 meters altitude. The indigenous Debina grape produces crisp, high-acid white wines of extraordinary freshness — both still and the region's famous pétillant naturel (lightly sparkling) style. Zitsa's mountain limestone soils and cool Epirus climate create wines that recall Muscadet in their seafood-friendliness and Chablis in their limestone mineral precision. Lord Byron mentioned Zitsa wine in Childe Harold's Pilgrimage in 1812, making it one of Greek wine's most poetically documented appellations.
