China — wine

Yunnan China Wine Region

China's highest and most dramatic wine region, centered on the Shangri-La valley in northwestern Yunnan province at 2,200–2,800 meters elevation — among the world's highest commercial vineyards. The Mekong River gorge and Tibetan plateau transitions create a unique climate of intense UV radiation, extreme day-night temperature swings, and dry winters that produce Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc of extraordinary concentration. LVMH's Domaine Chandon and Moët Hennessy established Ao Yun winery in Adong village, Deqin county, producing wines that earned 98 points from Jancis Robinson and sell for over USD 300 per bottle.
