Spain — wine

Manchuela DO

One of Spain's most surprising emerging wine appellations, located in the high-altitude plateau between the provinces of Cuenca and Albacete in southeastern Spain. The indigenous Bobal grape — Spain's second most planted red variety after Tempranillo — dominates Manchuela, producing wines of extraordinary color, anthocyanin concentration, and fresh acidity at altitude (600–1,000m). Bobal had long been dismissed as a bulk wine grape, but producers like Finca Sandoval and Bodegas Ponce have demonstrated that old-vine Bobal from Manchuela's limestone soils can produce wines of genuine character and age-worthiness.
