Spain — wine

Alella DO

Spain's smallest and most urban wine DO, located 20km north of Barcelona on the Maresme coast between the beach and the Can Trias sierra at 50–200 meters. The granite soils and marine-influenced Mediterranean climate produce the indigenous Pansa Blanca (Xarel·lo Vermell) and Garnatxa Blanca in wines of genuine mineral character. The DO covers only 320 hectares — one of Spain's tiniest appellations — surrounded by suburban Barcelona sprawl that threatens vineyards annually. Cellers Alta Alella produces biodynamic Pansa Blanca and Cava from this extraordinary urban-edge terroir.
