Germany — wine

Germany Sachsen Wine Region

Germany's most easterly wine region, located along the Elbe River valley south of Dresden — the Saxon capital of baroque art and porcelain. The region's continental climate at 51°N produces Müller-Thurgau, Weissburgunder, Riesling, and the indigenous Goldriesling from steep slate and granite terraces above the Elbe. Sachsen wine is even less known internationally than Saale-Unstrut — consumed almost entirely by Saxon locals and visitors to Dresden's famous art museums. Weingut Karl Friedrich Aust and Schloss Proschwitz produce the region's benchmark wines from the dramatic Elbe-side terraces.
