Poland — wine

Małopolska Wine Region

Poland is one of Europe's most surprising emerging wine nations, with over 500 registered wineries by 2024. Małopolska (Lesser Poland) in the south, centred on Kraków, is the most established region — its loess-limestone ridges and continental climate with cold winters and warm summers suit cold-hardy hybrids and early-ripening vinifera: Solaris, Regent, Rondo, Pinot Noir, and Riesling. Despite limited recognition, quality has risen dramatically and Polish wines are attracting attention at European competitions.

Year Rating Notes
2023 Warm Polish summer well-suited to early-ripening varieties; Solaris and Regent achieved good natural ripeness.
2022 Outstanding central European vintage; Poland's warmest growing season on record produced wines of unusual depth.
2021 Cool, wet growing season presented challenges; early-ripening hybrids fared better than late-ripening vinifera.
2020 Solid Polish vintage; the Małopolska upland sites showed characteristic resilience and aromatic precision.
2019 Classic continental year; balanced ripeness across varieties with the bright acidity that defines Polish wine.
