Greece — wine

Amyndeon PDO

Amyndeon is Greece's highest and most northerly PDO wine region, located in the mountains of western Macedonia at 600–700m on the Florina plateau near the Albanian and North Macedonian borders. The extreme altitude produces Greece's most unexpected wines: cool-climate Xinomavro with red cherry, tomato leaf, and Barolo-like structure — and Greece's only OPAP rosé appellation. The cold lake-influenced microclimate (Lake Petron and Chimaditis) produces wines of haunting freshness at variance with all Mediterranean wine conventions.
