France — wine

Madiran Wine Region

Madiran in the Pyrenean foothills of Gascony produces France's most assertive and age-worthy red wine from Tannat — a grape grown almost nowhere else. The old clay-limestone hills at 150–300m produce Tannat of extraordinary tannin concentration and longevity; wines routinely require 10+ years to open. Madiran was one of the first wines scientifically studied for its resveratrol and procyanidin content — it contains more heart-healthy polyphenols than any other wine. The companion AOC Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh produces complex whites.
