Hemel-en-Aarde Wine Region

Hemel-en-Aarde (Heaven and Earth) is a system of three valleys near Hermanus on the Walker Bay coast — the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, Ridge, and Upper — representing South Africa's most sophisticated cool-climate wine district. The Atlantic Ocean influence, decomposed shale and sandstone soils at 100–450m, and the area's passion for Pinot Noir have established Hemel-en-Aarde as arguably South Africa's most refined wine region. Bouchard Finlayson and Hamilton Russell are the founding estates that established the region's international identity.
