North Canterbury in South Island; protected from coastal winds by the Teviotdale Hills, creating a warm, dry microclimate within Canterbury's otherwise cool conditions. Limestone and clay soils on rolling terrain. Riesling is the flagship variety — producing wines of Alsatian-level complexity. Pinot Noir also excellent; Pinot Gris succeeds where other Canterbury regions struggle.
