Fritz Haag Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese
Mosel, Germany
About this product
From the steepest section of the Brauneberger Juffer — the Sonnenuhr sub-site named for a second carved sundial — this Auslese represents the 'Brauneberg style': marginally less austere than Saar or Wehlener Sonnenuhr, with generous peach and apricot richness alongside blue slate minerality. The Juffer Sonnenuhr's extreme 75% gradient positions it among the Mosel's most labour-intensive vineyards, worked entirely by hand with winch-assisted access. Haag Auslese in magnums is among the Mosel's most age-worthy formats; the Goldkapsel Auslese is the collector's expression.

charcuterie
Auslese's botrytis character (honey, dried apricot) parallels Sauternes directly; the higher acidity of Riesling (TA 9-11 g/L vs. Sauternes 5-7 g/L) cuts the fat more effectively; no sulphur clash with delicate foie gras
