Georg Breuer Berg Schlossberg Riesling Grosses Gewächs

Rheingau, Germany
The Rheingau's most internationally recognised dry Riesling — Berg Schlossberg is a steep south-facing quartzite-and-slate slope above the Rhine at Rüdesheim, one of three contiguous 'Berg' vineyards (Schlossberg, Roseneck, Rottland) that Breuer championed for the Erstes/Grosses Gewächs classification. The GG style is fermented to dryness (< 9 g/L RS), producing a wine fundamentally different from the Mosel Auslese style: more textured, more powerful, with Alsatian breadth, but with distinctly German Riesling's electric acidity and mineral backbone. Suitable for 10-year cellaring; food-versatile in a way that off-dry Riesling is not.
