Niepoort Charme Tinto

Douro DOC, Portugal
Niepoort's most elegant red — Charme is Tinta Amarela (Trincadeira) dominant, from old terraced vines in the Cima Corgo's schist amphitheatres. Where most Douro reds pursue concentration and power, Charme is deliberately refined — lower alcohol (13-13.5% ABV), lighter colour than Touriga Nacional-dominant wines, but extraordinary perfume and mineral complexity. Dirk Niepoort specifically chose Tinta Amarela for its aromatic character: dried herbs, wild strawberry, iron mineral, and a silkiness that other Douro grapes rarely achieve. No new oak — aged in old 500L toneis (traditional Douro barrels). A wine that challenges the idea that Douro = power.
