Takagi Shuzo

Takagi Shuzo produces Juyondai — the most coveted and least available sake in Japan. The brewery's philosophy rejects export and large-volume production in favour of extreme quality control for a tiny domestic output distributed through a strict lottery system to selected retailers. Juyondai's cult status derives from both its extraordinary quality and its deliberate scarcity.

Juyondai (Fourteen Generations) is Japan's most mythologised sake — the Petrus or DRC equivalent. Its quality is extraordinary by any measure, but its cult status has outpaced even its excellence: bottles sell at 3-10x retail price on the secondary market. For a sommelier, being able to source Juyondai for a guest is a significant relationship and knowledge signal. Extremely rare in BC; any listing should be verified with proof of allocation.
