Alaverdi Monastery, founded in the 6th century, has been making wine in qvevri buried in the monastery cellar since medieval times. The monks maintain unbroken continuity with Georgia's ancient winemaking tradition, producing wines that are simultaneously liturgical objects and expressions of extraordinary terroir.

Alaverdi Monastery is one of the world's oldest continuously operating wineries, its 900-year-old cellar containing ancient qvevri that have produced wine without interruption. The monastery's wines are among Georgia's most culturally significant and are collected worldwide.
