Stag's Leap Wine Cellars

Napa Valley, USA
The winery whose 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon defeated the first growths of Bordeaux at the 1976 Judgment of Paris blind tasting. Warren Winiarski founded the winery in 1970 in the Stags Leap District AVA. The CASK 23 is the flagship single-vineyard Cabernet, made only from S.L.V. and FAY estate vineyards. Now owned by Antinori (Italy) and Chateau Ste. Michelle (Washington State).
The 1976 Paris victory is one of wine's defining moments — the David vs. Goliath narrative that proved California could compete with the world's best. CASK 23 is consistently one of the most elegant Napa Cabernets — Stags Leap terroir produces wines with a velvet texture ('iron fist in velvet glove'). Available BC LDB.
