Domaine Leroy

Burgundy, France
Lalou Bize-Leroy, after her departure from DRC in 1992, purchased Domaine Charles Noëllat and transformed it into Domaine Leroy. Ultra-biodynamic farming — yields are sometimes below 10 hl/ha (normal is 40–60). No chemicals of any kind, ever. Extensive use of herbal preparations (compost teas, horn silica, horn manure). Hand-harvesting in multiple passes. The results are wines of extraordinary concentration and longevity. Prices have surpassed DRC at auction for some cuvées.
Lalou Bize-Leroy (born 1932) is Burgundy's most formidable character — intellectually ferocious, obsessively perfectionist. Her Chambertin has sold at auction for $12,000+ per bottle. The domaine now includes Musigny, Richebourg, Romanée-Saint-Vivant, Clos de Vougeot, and 20+ other Grand Cru and Premier Cru sites.
