Bodegas San Alejandro

Calatayud DO, Spain
A reformed cooperative producing some of the world's finest value old-vine Garnacha — the San Alejandro cooperative works with growers farming ungrafted Garnacha vines averaging 80+ years old at 700–900m altitude. The estate has transformed from bulk producer to quality-focused winery through investment in small-batch production and single-vineyard identification. The flagship Baltasar Gracián is named after the 17th-century Jesuit philosopher born in Calatayud.
San Alejandro's Baltasar Gracián Garnacha Viñas Viejas is the wine that put Calatayud on the international map — receiving 92-94 points from Wine Advocate and The Wine Spectator for consecutive vintages at under €15. Robert Parker called it 'the finest value old-vine Garnacha produced anywhere in the world'.
