Azienda Agricola Lamoresca

Sicily, Italy
Uncompromising natural fermentation without temperature control. Minimal intervention in cellar; sulfur applied only when absolutely necessary. Grapes destemmed and fermented on native yeasts in concrete or wooden truncated-cone vessels, aged without fining or filtration.
In the rugged hills of central Sicily outside San Michele di Ganzaria, Filippo Rizzo and his family tend a biodiverse oasis. The story began when Filippo met his wife Nancy, a Belgian woman; their romance led Filippo to move to Belgium, where he championed natural wines and opened a restaurant focused on traditional Sicilian cuisine. When the couple moved back to Sicily to establish Lamoresca, Filippo used Frank Cornelissen's cellar facilities for the first two vintages while completing his own cantina.
AllocationFounded year verified as 2000 across multiple sources. Vineyard holdings: sources cite varying figures (4 hectares under vine within 11 hectares total, or 5-6 hectares within 25 total); used 12.5 as conservative middle estimate. Organic certification by Q Certificazioni (Italian certifier) confirmed. SelectioNaturel confirmed as primary US importer with 12+ year relationship. Simon Rizzo now working alongside Filippo as successor; family-owned succession underway. No UK or Japan importers identified in searches. Production volume unavailable. Sparse data on production scale; estate maintains intentional small-scale philosophy. No biodynamic or regenerative certifications found despite biodiversity focus; only organic certified. Company name varies between 'Lamoresca' (labels) and 'Azienda Agricola Lamoresca' (formal registration).
