Domaine Frantz Chagnoleau

Burgundy, France
Frantz and Caroline practise rigorous non-interventionism in the cellar—fermentation on indigenous yeasts in large foudres, maturation on lees through summer, minimal use of new oak. The wines express limestone terroirs with mineral precision and saline tension, picked for acidity and poise rather than opulence.
Founded in 2009 by oenologist Frantz Chagnoleau and his wife Caroline Gon—a trained agronomist mentored by Dominique Lafon—this small domaine has rapidly become among the Mâconnais' most consequential voices. Their six parcels, clustered in the high limestone villages of Pierreclos, Vergisson, Chasselas and Viré, command elevations between 240 and 400 metres where iron-rich bedrock enforces mineral rigour.
AllocationConflicting certification dates: most sources cite Ecocert certification since 2019, but Skurnik 2019 article mentions 2013 certification. Lea & Sandeman source is dated; Caroline Gon transitioned from Héritiers du Comte Lafon to full-time domaine work circa 2022. Biodynamic conversion mentioned in Flatiron source as 'moving toward biodynamic' but not yet formally certified. Production volume unavailable. No appellation_primary assigned as the domaine produces across multiple Saint-Véran, Pouilly-Fuissé, Mâcon-Villages and Viré-Clessé cuvées. Regional structure reflects producer's multi-appellation positioning within Mâconnais. Website language capability confirmed as French and English based on domain structure and importer presentations. | Importer overflow captured (importer_other): 'Johan Lidby Vinhandel (Sweden)'
