Domaine de Bellene
Burgundy, France
Philosophy
Whole-cluster fermentations with indigenous yeasts, minimal new oak (10–30% depending on cuvée), natural winemaking without added acid, sugar, or enzymes. Light wax-sealed bottles on recycled paper reflect ecological commitment. Vinification emphasizes terroir expression and vintage character over standardization.
Reputation
Domaine de Bellene emerged in 2005 when Nicolas Potel, son of legendary vigneron Gérard Potel of Domaine de la Pousse d'Or, purchased old-vine parcels in Beaune following the sale of his earlier négociant business to the Cottin brothers. The domaine was renamed from Domaine Nicolas Potel in 2008, taking its name from Bellene, the Celtic sun god for whom ancient Beaune was first known—a gesture toward restoring the house as a Beaune reference.
