Fonseca Guimaraens
Douro Valley, Portugal
Philosophy
Foot-trodden in traditional granite lagares; two-year oak barrel aging before bottling unfiltered. Signature style: rich, luscious fruitiness with opulent character, black fruit intensity, velvety texture, and decades of aging potential.
Reputation
Founded in 1815 through Manuel Pedro Guimaraens' acquisition of the historic Fonseca & Monteiro merchant house in Porto, Fonseca has maintained an unbroken lineage of family winemaking across six generations. The house emerged as a principal architect of the modern Port trade, becoming the second-largest exporter by 1840 and a defining exemplar of Vintage Port's grandeur since its first declaration in 1840.
