Maison Champy
Burgundy, France
Philosophy
Long barrel ageing—up to 16 months—with meticulous restraint: an average of only two barrels per wine. Whites whole-bunch pressed into wide tanks for lees settling; indigenous yeast fermentation; restrained new oak deployment. The house's winemaking philosophy reflects three centuries of rigorous selection and terroir fidelity.
Reputation
Founded in 1720 by cooper Edmé Champy, Maison Champy stands as Burgundy's oldest négociant house. Its cellars and winemaking facilities, housed in a listed building on Rue du Grenier à Sel in Beaune and inspired by Gustave Eiffel's architectural school, sit atop 15th-century Jacobine monk cellars and remain the last wine estate still operating within the medieval town.
