Pierre Péters

Champagne, France
Exclusively Chardonnay from chalky terroirs of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and neighbouring Grand Cru villages. Stainless steel fermentation, perpetual solera-based reserve blending, hand harvesting. Emphasis on mineral tension and site-specificity rather than richness, with malolactic fermentation and extended lees aging that permits remarkable longevity.
The Pierre Péters estate traces its lineage to 1858, when Gaspar Péters, a Luxembourg native, married Miss Doué, proprietor of a modest Le Mesnil vineyard. For decades the family sold grapes to négociants until 1919, when Camille Péters became one of the Champagne region's first growers to harvest, vinify and sell under his own label. Situated in the heart of the Côte des Blancs, the domaine has remained devoted exclusively to Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs since.
AllocationFounded 1919 (bottling begins) vs 1858 (family vineyard origin); both dates are significant and verified from producer website and multiple trade sources. Rodolphe Péters is sixth generation overall but fourth-generation winemaker at the modern bottling house. No organic or biodynamic certification identified despite sustainable farming practices explicitly mentioned on producer site and retail sources. Production volume estimated from 13,000 cases/year (156,000 bottles) per Vinovest source. Vineyard holdings consistently reported as 19-20 hectares with standard variance in historical accounts. Terry Theise confirmed as principal US importer since 1997 via his portfolio and CellarTracker. Some sources list Rodolphe as taking control in 2008 after joining in 2007. Grand Cru Selections now listed as official partner (recent). Sparse Japanese distribution data; left null.
