Ruinart
Champagne, France
Philosophy
Chardonnay defines every cuvée of Ruinart, cultivated on chalky Montagne de Reims and Côte des Blancs terroirs. Long maturation in Gallo-Roman chalk cellars—three to four years for non-vintage, nine to ten years for prestige cuvées—renders wines of uncommon mineral purity, citrus finesse and aromatic restraint. The house privileges elegance over power, a philosophy established 295 years ago.
Reputation
Founded 1 September 1729 by Nicolas Ruinart in Reims—the world's first dedicated Champagne house. The vision was that of Dom Thierry Ruinart, a visionary Benedictine monk and contemporary of Dom Pérignon, who perceived the future of 'wine with bubbles' before the 1728 royal edict legalizing bottled transport opened European markets to Champagne.
