Heitz Wine Cellars
Philosophy
Heitz Wine Cellars is one of Napa Valley's founding estates — Joe Heitz purchased the Spring Mountain property in 1961 and released the first Martha's Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon in 1966. The eucalyptus character of Martha's Vineyard (from trees bordering the vineyard) became the most discussed terroir signature in California wine history. Under the Heitz family, the wines have been made without compromise since the beginning.
Reputation
Heitz Martha's Vineyard is one of California's most historically significant wines — the 1974 vintage was arguably the first Napa Cabernet to achieve world-class recognition. The distinctive eucalyptus mint character from Martha's Vineyard remains one of California's most recognizable and discussed terroir signatures.
