Philosophy
Roman Niewodniczanski purchased the historic Van Volxem estate in 1999 and transformed it into the most ambitious producer in the Saar. While Egon Müller defines the traditional late-harvest style, Van Volxem defines the modern dry Saar — bone-dry Grosses Gewächs Riesling of extraordinary mineral intensity, high acidity, and 20+ year aging potential. The Scharzhofberg, Kanzem Altenberg, and Wawerner Herrenberg GGs are among Germany's most mineral and age-worthy dry Rieslings. The wines are fiercely individual — initially austere, revelatory with 5-10 years of cellaring.
