Yaoundé Traditional Matango Collective

The Yaoundé Traditional Matango Collective represents the network of small-scale matango producers serving the kiosk culture around Cameroon's capital region and the Centre and South provinces. Matango is the generic Cameroonian term for fermented palm wine, produced from the sap of various palm species — primarily the raffia palm and oil palm — tapped daily and fermented naturally by indigenous yeasts. The Collective organises traditional producers around sustainable tapping practices, hygiene standards, and fair pricing, while preserving the spontaneous fermentation character that gives authentic Cameroonian matango its complex, yeasty profile.

Cameroonian matango represents an ancient African fermented beverage tradition shared across the forest zone of Central and West Africa, with Cameroon's Centre-South region particularly noted for its active matango kiosk culture and diverse palm species.
