The reputation — the story that sells at the table
Descendientes de J. Palacios transformed Bierzo's reputation and created one of Spain's most exciting quality wine regions. Their wines have become benchmarks for Mencía's potential and among Spain's most critically acclaimed and expensive bottles.
Practice
Descendientes de J. Palacios is the estate that put Bierzo on the international wine map. Founded by Álvaro Palacios (of Priorat fame) and his nephew Ricardo Pérez Palacios in 1999, the estate identified and restored old-vine Mencía vineyards on the slate slopes above Corullón and the Sil River tributaries. Their Pétalos del Bierzo offers accessible elegance while the single-vineyard Corullón, Las Lamas, and La Faraona bottlings are among Spain's most sought-after wines, demonstrating that Mencía can achieve Pinot Noir-like finesse when grown on the right slate terroir.
