Guigal La Landonne Côte-Rôtie
Côte-Rôtie, France
About this product
The most powerful and structured of Guigal's la-las. La Landonne is from the Côte Brune — iron-rich, schist-clay soils. 100% Syrah (no Viognier). Dark, dense, almost inky in youth. The wine represents the iron-muscular side of Northern Rhône Syrah. 42 months in new oak. Needs 20+ years minimum. Only produced in certain vintages — not made in lighter years. ~3,000 bottles per year.

Pairings

La Landonne's iron-graphite-game character is perfectly suited to venison — the gamey red meat amplifies the wine's natural game notes. Black truffle bridges the wine's earthiness; bitter chocolate in the jus mirrors the wine's dark intensity without sweetness.

La Landonne's extraordinary iron-tar is one of wine's most powerful flavour experiences; only a 60-day dry-aged rib has the intensity to match; marrow's fat softens the iron while Périgueux bridges the truffle note

Wild boar's primitive intensity and the hunter's sauce reduction are the only game preparations with the depth to match La Landonne's iron-smoke at maturity

Venison's iron-red meat intensity and the black truffle sauce's volatile earth create the dual-register flavour intensity that La Landonne's tar-iron requires
