Hungary — wine

Mátra Wine Region

Hungary's largest wine region by hectarage, Mátra sits on the volcanic foothills of the Northern Highlands at 150–400m elevation. Long dominated by high-volume co-operatives, the region is undergoing a craft renaissance with smaller estates focused on indigenous varieties Hárslevelű and Muscat Ottonel alongside international plantings. The cool continental climate and mineral volcanic soils produce wines of genuine aromatic character.
